Fame Fancy

Ever wonder why some people are willing to spend ten times the amount of money that can buy a pirated CD to get a original one? I guess besides supporting their beloved idols, the only reason is the quality of the CD.

Nowadays, the competition is tough for the music industries, besides the competitors among the artists, their major enemy is the piracy. Packaging has become the vital role in attracting the  customers. You may say that packaging is like icing on the cake in the past, but now the icing is playing an even bigger influence in the music industry. Sometimes you may even taste a thick layer of colourful icing with little cake in it, or maybe none.

Anyway, sad to say that, it benefits the design industry. We are the one who can save the music industry (Not if you are the one who is helping the pirates to design pirated CD) , I guess.

This was my design project back in university.

I designed it based on the genre of the music the artist performed. She is a soul singer. Her songs are full of meaning and philosophy. That is why I designed it with a mixture of traditional and contemporary elements.  The colours I use are simple and minimal as she is not a pop singer. So I guess she would like it!
